Moving You Sim Through The World

This is a follow-up to the post Living Life As A Sim Rather Than A First Person Shooter. In that post I described the technique of thinking of yourself in the 3rd person (like a Sim in the Sims, or the character in FarmVille). This provides a better perspective on my position in the world and the world around me. If it rains, it rains on my Sim (my body) but does it really rain on my soul? Isn’t the real me truly separated from my physical self that the perspective shows?

I find that I always experience anxiety when I am imagining the future. It is hard to stop yourself from simply imagining the future. Imagining the future using the 3rd person perspective helps a lot to minimize anxiety.

So we are now imagining ourselves in the 3rd person. When things happen to that Sim (good and bad) we see them in the 3rd person. But our Sim doesn’t just stand there, we actually have moves to make!

However, what moves do we make? I find that the 4 Agreements provides a good guide:

  1. Be Impeccable With Your Word.
  2. Don't Take Anything Personally.
  3. Don't Make Assumptions.
  4. Always Do Your Best.

If any move we make for our Sim follows these 4 guidelines, we are doing the best we can.

The important point is that you can “make moves” but you cannot predict the outcome. This is as it is in real life whether we accept this fact or not.

Our anger is always when we expect something and it does not happen, and our anxiety is always when we predict or imagine something in the future that we are resisting.
